Pineapple Dole Whip ~ vegan & dairy-free {A Disney Favorite!]

If you’ve been to Disney then you know all about their famous Dole Whip! My first time sampling Dole Whip wasn’t at Disney though….it was at the Dole Plantation back when I lived in Hawaii. Imagine to my surprise and delight to discover this treat at Disney back in the 90’s. My hubby & I have taken our 3 girls to Disney too many times to count. We’ve been blessed with yearly passes 3 times now. Yes…we’re Disney fanatics! Thank goodness we live in Florida. 😉 All 3 of my girls now consider the Dole Whip a “must have” when we go to Disney. You can purchase it at Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland across from the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse, and also at the Polynesian hotel where you get to “make your own dole whips.” Now you can make it at home….of course, it’s not exact, but it’s pretty darn close!

This accidental treat happened in my Vita-Mix last month. If you follow me on Instagram, then this picture probably already looks familiar to you. I love sharing my food pictures there, but sometimes I feel a little guilty. For instance…I knew the recipe wasn’t exact yet, and I wanted to make sure I had the chance to tweak it and recreate it again before sharing it here. I feel bad when I make you wait like that. I hope you forgive me.

When this incredibly smooth pineapple creation hits your tongue, I’m sure you’ll forget all about the wait, and just feel blessed to have it now! It’s not hard to make, but I do think you’ll need a powerful blender to chop through your frozen fruit. Part of the trick is not to use too much liquid otherwise it will turn out more soupy than frozen. Water will probably work in a pinch, but the only two liquids I used were coconut milk (full fat…not light) and coconut water. Not at the same time, but when I went to make it the other night I was out of coconut milk and the coconut water worked just as good. I do think I’d lean toward the coconut milk as it’s creamier and thicker.

About the sugar. It’s not needed or you can use a natural sweetener probably. Pineapple is sweet enough, but because I wanted more of a true sorbet experience, I added a couple tablespoons the second time I made it, and it was just perfect. If I’m eating clean or on the Daniel fast or Daniel Plan, then I really won’t miss the added sugar so you be the judge. Add it or not…it didn’t affect the final outcome.

  • 2-3 cups frozen pineapple (amounts are forgiving)
  • ½ can full-fat coconut milk or coconut water (or plain water would probably work)
  • 2 Tbsp sugar (optional, leave out for Daniel Plan & Whole Life Challenge)
  1. In Vita-Mix or powerful blender add frozen pineapple and coconut milk. These amounts aren't set in stone. If it doesn't seem firm enough for you, add more frozen pineapple. If it seems too firm, add more coconut milk.
  2. Add sugar or other natural sweetener of choice. Or omit if you're keeping your eating clean. It was still sweet without it.
  3. Blend and spoon into serving dishes and eat immediately.
  4. Makes 2 large portions or 4 small portions. ENJOY!!
