Salted candied walnuts ~ Secret Recipe Club

Hi guys…I’m back!! I sure didn’t mean to leave you hanging! If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook and now Instagram (CreativeKitchen), then you know my family and I have been gallavanting around the world these past couple weeks….Disney World, that is!! We feel fairly certain we’ve just had the BEST vacation ever….we are a Disney family, and have created most of our great family memories there over the years. Being Florida residents and passholders makes it a more affordable trip. I can’t wait to fill you all in and have great Disney favorites to share with you all, but in the meantime………

it’s secret recipe club time again, and every month I’m super excited when I finally get my assignment! This month I was assigned the blog Steak N Potatoes Kinda Gurl. Desi likes to have fun and it really comes across in her writing style and adventures in the kitchen. She has so many great recipes to choose from that it was hard to narrow it down to just one so make sure you stop by and check her blog out. I know you’ll have as much fun as I did!

I finally settled on her salted candied pecans which I made with walnuts since I was out of pecans. No matter because they taste phenomenal no matter what nut you choose. These would make a great gift for Christmas, but actually an awesome snack anytime. Just be careful and have a lot of peeps around to help you eat them. They are addicting, and though I shared with my girls….way too many ended up in my mouth! 😉

Recipe type: Dessert, Snack, Christmas
Cook time:
Total time:
Serves: 4

Ingredients
  • 1 cup walnuts or pecans
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 3 Tbsp water
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
Instructions
  1. In a heavy bottom medium saucepan, combine sugar, water and walnuts over medium heat.
  2. Stir frequently, scraping bottom and keep coating nuts as the sugar dissolves.
  3. Add in cinnamon. After a few minutes turn the heat to medium low, and continue stirring. Right before they are done (in about 7 minutes) the sugar water will thicken and it will become a bit harder to stir.
  4. Once completely coated turn nuts onto a sheet to cool. Sprinkle with sea salt.

  4. These nuts have a great combo of flavors! Pinning to make a batch…I buy candied nuts in the bulk section for salads all the time, but I’m betting it’s healthier and a bit less expensive to make them myself…glad to be in Group C with you!!
