My Fitness Pal & weight loss update

Again I leave you hanging…..sheesh. I can’t be trusted, can I? I will never give up coming here and sharing with you guys. I love the outlet Creative Kitchen has become for me, the people I’ve met through my blog and above all sharing things with you from my kitchen. In fact, I have a tasty pasta dish for you later this week! Promise me you’ll continue to stop by, okay?

Since sharing with you my love of running, I’ve been cooking and baking up a storm in my kitchen. Which is surprising considering that I’m still losing weight. Do I dare say I may have found that “sweet spot?” Over the last 3 years since I’ve been food blogging, my weight has fluctuated up and down the same 5 to 10 lbs. This summer I’m finally down at the bottom of a whole new decade of numbers.

WOW!! I’m still shocked. The cool part is that I’m eating all food groups. I’m not counting carbs or sugar grams or fat grams. I’ve been using the My Fitness Pal app on my Iphone the past couple months….counting calories. I can’t believe how easy it is to use. Counting calories in the past has been a pain, but after the first week of use your regularly eaten foods just keep popping up.

I’m also stunned at how much food 1300 calories actually is. Here are a couple screen shots of the My Fitness Pal app so you can see. It’s extremely EASY to use, and everyone else has already pre-loaded most everything out there.

Hubby uses the Weight Watchers e-tools app, so I can tell you that My Fitness Pal seems even easier and quicker to use than that. Many times I’m done putting in my food, and he’s still searching for the right type of food. Weight Watchers has been great for him, but he definitely gets frustrated with the e-tool app.

There’s also a spot to keep track of your weight, and it will show you your progress in a handy graph. You can change your calorie goals along the way as you lose weight, and I find it interesting to see the percentage of protein, fat, carbs, fiber and different vitamins I consume. There’s also a spot to see that as a graph.

So since the end of May I’m down a solid 10 pounds! Yes I’ve also been exercising, but it hasn’t been to the extreme. I average 3 to 5 days a week depending on the week. I’m only 5 pounds from my goal weight! Can I say that I’m ecstatic!!?? I’ve not seen these numbers since before conceiving our third child. Clothing that’s been hiding in the back of my closet is starting to be pulled out and worn. Love it!!

So what have you been up to? Do you have any weight loss goals you’re ready to start getting serious about? If so, I’d love to hear your plan of attack and cheer you on! What about apps? Any helpful apps you can share with us? Make sure and leave me a comment….I love hearing from you!

Oh I’m so happy for you Denise, you sound like you’re doing great!! I am so inspired. I was loving MFP for a while and have lost 4-5 lbs since starting it, but haven’t been as consistent with it. That needs to change. I’ve been in a funk with eating, mostly b/c I’m not planning and getting caught unprepared.
I’m so proud of you for sticking with it! You are motivating!

Denise I am so proud of you and Ken. Over the past 6 months, since starting my 2,184 mile trek on the Appalachian Trail, I have lost about 45 lbs. the size 8 pants I bought in Manchester Center, Vermont no longer fit. This has not been intentional weight loss, but I am very happy about it. This has been the hardest weight loss regime I have ever done. I have about 111 miles left before I summit Mt Katahdin next week and then it’s back to civilization. I don’t want to gain back any of the weight I’ve lost and plan to follow a healthy vegetarian diet, sans all wheat produts, when I return home. Read the book Wheat Belly if you haven’t already, I was amazed. I am also planning on starting to run again too. After carrying a 45 lb pack for 7 months and losing that much fat off my body ( actually more since I’ve put on lots of leg muscle) it will be like running 90 lbs lighter. We’ll have to plan a run when I get to FL in January.
